SIMFEROPOL - on December 23, Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people held a sitting devoted to discussing of preparation works for the 4th session of Kurultay III of Crimean Tatar people. They considered and asserted the agenda of the 4th session of Kurultay III, which included the report of the chairman of Crimean Tatar people on the activity of organs of national authority for the period from October 1999 through December 2000. The sitting participants were also introduced with report of the chairman of Revision commission of Kurultay for the same period. The agenda also included assertion of "Regulations for electing delegates of Kurultay of Crimean Tatar people" and electing Central electoral commission.

Our commentaries: the next in turn 4th session of Kurultay III of Crimean Tatar people will be held in Simferopol on January 5-6, 2000.

Jubilee of library.

The 10th anniversary of Crimean Tatar library named after Bekir Choban-zade was solemnly held in Karasubazar (Belogorsk).

People shared their warm and kind feelings to library founders and spoke about their enthusiasm in building this temple of knowledge and center of culture.

The names of people, who donated thousands of books to the library, were listed with a great pleasure.

The library has managed to create a rich collection of Crimean Tatar issues during these ten years. The library book fund accounts for 1000 issues. The library actively popularizes issues published in the native language, on history, culture and art, of the Crimean Tatar people. They organize various "workshops" and seminars in the library, devoted to prominent Crimean Tatar public figures, writers and scientists.

Our information: *Bekir Choban-zade was a prominent representative of the Crimean Tatar people, poet, scientist, and teacher. He was sent to exile under the Stalin regime in the end of 1930-ies.

 

Criminal review.

 

A large criminal group is neutralized.

SEVASTOPOL - the investigation on facts of criminal activity of the biggest group existing in Crimea during last 5 years is over. The criminal case has made 40 volumes.

The gang consisted of former servicemen and sportsmen - people having military experience and special background. Group's brigades specialized in controlling of gaming-business, prostitution, private trade and commercial bank. The criminals have committed several dozens of crimes, including a "famous" murder of a widely known gambler and a soccer team coach and 8 more murders of entrepreneurs and rivals.

Currently, 17 people are accused of being engaged in the criminal group. The criminals were confiscated 7 "Kalashnikov" gun-machines, 2 rifles, more than 2 thousand bullets of various caliber and other armor.
